Vermicomposting

Vermicomposting is composting with worms. Worms speed up the composting process of organic materials such as food scraps and garden waste.

What you will need:

  1. A bin
  2. Bedding
  3. Water
  4. Worms
  5. Worm Food

A Bin

Your bin needs to be 8″-14″ deep. You will also want to have a lid so that it is dark enogh.

Bedding

Your bedding can consist of leaves, partially composted material, chopped straw, or newspaper. For the newspaper, cut it into one inch strips and moisten with water until as damp as a wrung-out sponge. Fill any bedding with water until it is evenly damp.

Worms

Use red wigglers or red worms as they are the best for composting.

You can purchase these worms at Uncle Jim’s Worm Farm or Green Country Worms.

Worm Food

Check out The Basics page for information on what can go into your composting bin. These items will feed your worms.
