Trying to decide if you want to compost inside or outside? Consider this information before choosing.
Neither indoor or outdoor composting should have a smell. If you are properly taking care of your compost pile, there shouldn’t be an odor associated with it. Therefore, this shouldn’t be a concern when choosing where to compost.
Do you have outdoor space? If you have very limited outdoor space, it might be better to compost inside.
Do you want to use a bin or do you want to simply have a pile? If you want to just have a pile you will need to do outdoor composting. If you want to do compost in a bin, you can operate both inside and outside.
Do you have a composting service near you? If so, indoor composting might be an easier option. These containers tend to be smaller and easier to transport. If you are emptying your compost every week through one of these services, than indoor composting might be for you.
Do you have pets. Composting piles shouldn’t attract animals, however, sometimes pets are curious. If you have pets, a bin might be the most convenient.
How much do you tend to compost? Indoor composting usually are smaller containers, so if you produce a lot of food waste, outdoor composting might be a better option.
